Public Education
Through our public education efforts we are building a statewide commitment to preventing child abuse.
Prevent Child Abuse New York educates the state's citizens through informational exhibits, workshops, public awareness campaigns, the media, and our website.
During the past year, close to 1,000 people were educated at workshops and 6,500 at exhibits. An additional 66,000 households and agencies received prevention information via newsletters, mailings and visits to our website. Many more are educated through media activities and by our statewide member network, who bring public education activities to their localities.
Public service announcements and media stories promote our toll-free number, 1-800-CHILDREN. We send follow-up information to every person who responds, explaining how to become involved with local prevention efforts.
