Information about submitting a proposal

The New York State Child Abuse Prevention conference is designed to inspire and equip professionals, advocates, and parents with the latest abuse prevention, child protection, and parenting information and skills. We anticipate approximately 600 participants who work in many arenas: parent and family support, protective services, domestic violence, health care, mental health, education, law enforcement, religious and civic organizations, and in the home as parents. Their common purpose is to nurture and protect children.

Prevent Child Abuse New York is seeking workshops that will provide participants with skills and information they can immediately put to use back home, in their jobs, in their homes, and in their communities.
We encourage submission of proposals at advanced levels for experienced professionals, as well as general interest workshops. Preference is given to presentations that are highly interactive and include strategies to engage the audience.

Workshop length: 1 and ¾  hours.

We prefer proposals to be submitted through the form here. If you would like mail your materials, download the application.

Criteria for all workshops:
  • Relate to primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention and family support.
  • Focus on strategies, skills building, and practical application.
  • Fit one of the conference tracks.
  • Provide "take-home" handouts on key information and concepts.
  • If about a specific program model, focus on implementation/replication issues.
  • Must not be a sales pitch (which would, however, be welcome as a conference exhibit).
  • Maximum of two presenters, unless approved by the conference coordinator. Call 518-445-1273 for more information.
Presenter benefits and responsibilities:
  • Prevent Child Abuse New York will promote workshops and presenters through mailings, e-mail, and our Web site.
  • We are happy to waive one-day's registration fees, for the day of their presentation, for principal presenters and one co-presenter. Waivers are non-transferable. Additional presenters, if approved, will not receive the discount.
  • Presenters are responsible for lodging, transportation, and copies of handouts.
  • Presenters must provide hard copies of PowerPoint presentations to workshop participants. Presenters must also provide digital copies of all handouts and PowerPoint presentations to be posted on Prevent Child Abuse New York's Web site.
