Jim Hmurovich, President & CEO, Prevent Child Abuse America, "Preventing Child Abuse & Neglect: Where We Are, Where We Need to Go" Presentation description: Speaking of the horrible consequences of child maltreatment has not ensured the consistent and uniform development of child abuse and neglect prevention policy. Consequently, Prevent Child Abuse America is providing leadership in reframing prevention messages and in bringing a public health approach to our field. Mr. Hmurovich will focus on strategies to improve the manner in which we communicate the prevention message to the public and become more effective in developing public policy that recognizes a child’s right to be safe, healthy and nurtured. About Jim Hmurovich: James M. Hmurovich is a former juvenile probation officer for Monroe County, Indiana, as well as a former state parole officer, State Director of Probation, Director of Administration, Director of Planning and Deputy Commissioner for the Indiana Department of Correction. After almost 20 years of service in that department, he was appointed to the position of Director, Division of Family and Children for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, a position he held for almost 9 years. In that capacity, he was responsible for a $1 billion budget and 4,500 staff in 125 locations providing public assistance, child welfare, child support, child care and numerous other human service programs in Indiana's 92 counties. He is a graduate of Indiana University with undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology, and a graduate degree in Counseling, and has been an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University for over 15 years. He served as Interim President/CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America from October 31, 2005, to August 31, 2006 at which time he was appointed by the Board of Directors as President/CEO. |
