April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by Presidential proclamation in 1985. Since then, people and organizations who are dedicated to protecting children have used this special time of year to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse in all its forms. Feel free to use the following information as you plan your Child Abuse Prevention Month activities:

Human Services’ Children’s Bureau, Office on Child Abuse and Neglect, Child Welfare Information Gateway, and the FRIENDS National Resource Center for Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention Program. It highlights strategies that can strengthenfamilies by promoting key protective factors that have been shown to prevent child abuse and neglect.
